Leaf Corojo

Notes: Gorgeous, dark and oily Corojo wrapper. Prelight aroma of chocolate and flavors of espresso, milk chocolate, citrus, raisin and a faint floral. By the last third some spice has crept in. Perfect construction and combustion, delicious with great complexity and transitions.

Smoking time: One hour, twenty nine minutes

Rating: Five stars

  1. Hi this is a really neat idea and your reviews are top notch. As someone just getting into smoking cigars other peoples lists, especially with rankings, are helpful. Would you mind if I downloaded your spreadsheet so I could easily track your 5's and 4's so I can look to purchase some? Please and thank-you.

    Cheers

    1. Thank you for the compliment Bob! I appreciate your interest! I think one of the buttons in the lower corner of the embedded sheet might allow you to download it, but those might only be visible to me, not sure. If you can't see it I can email it to you. If you're just getting in to cigar smoking, I find it really cool that you're interested in Lanceros, as it seems most don't enjoy them as much till they've been at it a while.

    2. Also, you should try more than just the ones I rank highly, as some of them could've been just a "bad one", especially if you've enjoyed other vitolas of that blend. Also of note is that many retailers don't necessarily keep their stock in perfect conditions (many over-humidify, from my experience). So there is quite a few so far that could've been ranked higher, through no fault of the factory. Just a thought.

  2. Hi Chris,
Yes I Actually tried that and it down loaded but I deleted it pending approval. It is your work after all.
I still find cigars with a ring gage of over 50 a little daunting plus I find I enjoy the ratio of filler to wrapper in Lanceros.
My developing rule is to try and keep new cigars in my coolerdor for 8 week before trying but seeing as I am accumulation mode it is difficult.

    1. That's a great rule to follow. Allowing them proper time for the moisture to balance will give you a much better and more accurate experience. I have one big closet humidor for storage I keep around 70%, one desktop around 68% that I move them to a few days before I smoke (basically my cigar queue), and another "dry box" which has no humidification and usually sits in the low 60s%. The dry box is for the cigars that are obviously too damp, for whatever reason (soft, squishy, usually from insufficient factory aging or over humidification at the retailer).

  3. My access to cigars is a tad challenging in Vancouver BC as there is really only one on-line shop and their selection isn't a patch on those oyu have access to. Lots of cubans around but I'm finding the non-cuban scene really interesting and where all the action is.
I do have a postal drop in Blaine WA but I still need to stay 48 hours before I can bring 50 cigars back duty free. I tried getting some shipped up but only one of 3 got through without excessive duty applied (I sent those 2 packages back!). All this is by way of saying I'm hoping to leverage off your access to cigars and experience to jump start mine! Hoping to avoid dogs as much as find unicorns:)

    1. If you ever want to make a large purchase from one of the retailers here in the U.S., you can have them shipped to me and I'll send them up to you if you pay for shipping. I know that sounds daunting, trusting a complete stranger with your purchase, but I'm totally willing if you trust me. The one bad thing is I'm in Pennsylvania, home of Cigars International, Famous Smoke, Holt's and Atlantic Cigar, four of the biggest online retailers, so they add sales tax to any order going to my address, usually 7 or 8 percent. Let me know, always willing to help a fellow enthusiast.

  4. Hi Chris, that's a most generous offer and as 1) you seam trustworthy and 2) I'm generally a trusting person I may take you up on it. And yes I would pay for the shipping. I seem to have somewhat settled on Atlantic, SmokeInn and Cigar King as consistent suppliers. Haven't really look at Holts or International yet. The only thing holding me up is how best to get such a package through customs. I got a little excited a the beginning of the year and ordered from 3 places. One got through untaxed while the other two have massive duties applied to them (such that I did not accept the packages.300% duty, etc seemed excessive). Not sure if my name is on a list somewhere or not so I'll play it cool for awhile.
